| Description: |
The hula had a resurgance or renaissance during the last half of this past century with many halaus (studios) encouraging haumanas (students) to embrace the ancient arts. In order for the kumu (teacher) to teach the ancient (kahiko) hula, instruments, especially the ipu (single gourd drum) and ipu-heke (double gourd drum), which kept the beat, was very necessary. Today, all halaus have merged the old and new called hula ku'i with the ipu as the indigenous instrument most closely associated with this type hula. The beutiful sound of the ipu must resonate a constant beat for the haumanas. Each of our ipus and ipu-hekes are custom made for a specific natural sound at a reasonable price. Each ipu or ipu-heke (pad for bottom enclosed--ipu-heke only-- comes with a special braided cord around the neck which gives it that professional look). PLEASE give us 7-10 business days to complete your order (more time for larger orders).
